Backpack Ministry
The Backpack Ministry is dedicated to assembling food sacks for students. We meet once a week or every other week, depending on the school's needs. Our gatherings will take place in the backpack room, and the specific day and time will be announced before the start of the school year.
During our meetings, we will pack 8-10 healthy food items into sacks using an assembly line method. Each tub will contain 10 sacks of food. Last year, we prepared 110 sacks each week. We often take a moment to pray for the students and staff at Allen Bowden.
The Backpack Ministry helps participants grow in faith by fostering relationships with the staff and students at Allen Bowden. This initiative demonstrates our care and love for them in various ways. In addition to providing weekly sacks of food for children during the school year, we also organize a coat drive in the winter and host an Aloha luncheon for the staff at the beginning of the school year. We participate in other school drives and activities as needed, all of which contribute to our collective growth in faith.
Here are some ways you can help:
1. Set up food for assembly
2. Assemble the food
3. Deliver the tubs to the school weekly
4. Pick up food from the food bank approximately four times a year
Blessing Box
The Blessing Box, located in the west circle drive, is open 24/7/365. It is stocked daily with only non-perishable foods for those in need. Our congregation donates food items and contributes financially to support this program. We are thankful that some members of the Sapulpa community have also been leaving food items!
Our motto: "Take what you need; leave what you can. Above all, be blessed."
Missions
We strive to meet needs within the Sapulpa and surrounding areas through various initiatives, including disaster recovery, minor home repairs, wheelchair ramps, moving expenses, yard work, and our "Chainsaw Gang."
S.M.O.R.E.
Each summer, we grill hamburgers and hot dogs in local Sapulpa parks for six Thursday evenings. All are welcome!
Minister's Discretionary Fund
We assist with utilities and other hardship needs.
NOTE: We have partnered at times with other local programs, including Caring Community Friends, Sapulpa Public Schools, Calvary Baptist Church, The Coffee Stop, and Shoulder2Shoulder.
